|Trek in the Kachkar Mountains of Turkey
July 29th – August 7th, 2021
The Pontic Alps also named “The Black Sea ridge” lie south of the Black Sea. The ridge blocks the humidity coming from the sea causing a lot of rain to fall on its north face, creating an almost rain-forest habitat. The south face, however , is under “rain-shadow” effect, being relatively dry. The Kachkar summit is the highest point on the ridge, at 3932 meters above sea level.
The Kachkar is a place where ancient traditions still rule. Our trek will open for us a window to amazing nature and fascinating culture.
We will land in Erzurum, where we will visit the Selcuk monuments. Then we will drive along the Tortum River to the Kachkar area. We will hike up to the Yayla – the summer plateaus.
We will visit the Karagol lake, Deniz Gulu, attempt reaching the Kachkar summit, cross the ridge through Naletleme pass to Upper Kavrun village, visit the thermal pools in Ayder, the tea plantations above Firtina river, and the Black sea cost. On the 10th day we will fly back, fro Trabzon airport.
